What size satellite dish do I need

The size satellite dish you need will depend on a few factors. The main one being where are you in the world. As we are a UK-based audio visual company we will base the rest of the article from that point of view.

Even for UK residents, whether you live in the North or South of the country can really impact what choice you have when it comes to the size of satellite dishes. The general rule is the further from the equator you are the larger the dish you will need.

For example, if you are living south of Manchester and have a standard Sky or other satellite installation then you can use a “mini dish” of around 40 cm in diameter. Once you go north of there then you are looking at dish sizes of up to 60cm. This is especially for you if you are living in the north of Scotland.

It’s not just the size that you have to consider. Some satellite dishes come with additional functions that might help you get that perfect reception.

Do I need a different sized satellite dish to get foreign channels?

Luckily if you are in the UK then the size of your dish should be fine to receive foreign channels. This is of course if you have the correct equipment in your home to decode the transmission.

If you’re located in London or Hertfordshire, as your audio visual experts we’d be more than happy to help you find the right satellite dish and even install it for you too! If you need any help or advice  then why not speak to our experts on 0800 876 62525 or contact us online.
